In Memoriam Reshad Feild

At the age of 82 our esteemed author, respected teacher and beloved friend Reshad Feild passed away on 31 May 2016 in Devon, England. His ashes were scattered over the river Dart, where he loved to walk and sit during the last years of his life.

Live recording from 1 September 1994 at Johanneshof, Lucerne, Switzerland. Reshad Feild (vocals and guitar), Dominique Starck (guitar)

Go On Your Way, Be Easy

Go on your way, be easy
Go on your way, be free
Go on your way, be easy
Go on your way, be free

Carry the line you’re given,
Bring it to the waiting world.
For you there’s no time for waiting,
There’s so much that’s yet unheard.

Don’t wait to see the answer,
Travel on, travel on.
The seeds that you are sowing
Are not yours, they belong to God.

When you’re awakened
What you carry is what you are,
So carry on the message,
Don’t let it die, travel on.

There’s a new world awakening,
Awakening to life on earth,
Not there to dreams unfinished,
But here to give the world new birth.

Reshad Feild

Completion – The Last Dinner at Johanneshof

A slide talk and audio recording from 13 June 1996 at Reshad’s spiritual centre Johanneshof, at the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, on the last evening before its final closing down.

Completion does not start,
nor is there any ending to the movement of truth itself.

Completion in a cycle of life is like looping the wind
from one place to the other, from north or south or east or west,
looping the wind.

The wind starts from our own beginnings,
transitions and, maybe, lack of understanding.

Silence develops out of light
from within the heart of an honest man or woman in this world.

The end of a cycle is not the end of possibility,
it is only the beginning.

Once when I was young, I was alone on a hill in Scotland, walking long distances.
There was nowhere I could see to go.

But then, after many miles of walking in the mountains
– I went home.
And then I knew where to go.

Reshad Feild

There are many deaths

There is one more thing I would like to say to you. And I pray you understand: You don’t face death once. You have to face it many times, men or women. When you face death at the time when the body will disintegrate, that is one. But there are many deaths. The Clearing Practice I gave you is a death every night, or the possibility.

Can we help people to face death? Death is life. It’s life! It is not a once-oV when you kick the bucket. If you can face life as I have faced death all my life, you can help many, many people.
That’s all I can say to you on that one. Just face it!

Into Thy Hands

The following slide show of photographs taken mainly during Reshad’s years in America was published on YouTube by Reshad’s longstanding student Bruce Miller [/], who also wrote a book about those years titled Rumi Comes to America [/]. The pictures are sound-tracked by Reshad’s song Prayer of Abandonment with the lyrics of the famous prayer by Charles de Foucauld [/] (1858–1916), who after decades of searching had found his way to Jesus through meeting up with Sufism.

Memories & Thanks

Thank you for your sensitive and touching obituary of Reshad Feild. I first met him perhaps 6 months before he bought Swyre Farm. I became a close helper while he taught in London, and when he travelled to Turkey he asked me to take responsibility for the work on the farm buildings as we converted them to a spiritual centre, Beshara. He was an exceptional man, and he led an exceptional life.

I looked into your eyes and hope to do so again inside the Vortex. Thanks for Konya, keeping the horse flies off in Chamonix, letting me go and encouraging me to run free. Not sure I got anywhere but Hu knows.

All things must pass into Light and return to the Source of All (tao). Reshad has returned after a life of service and dealing with the demons of the nafs that are so hard to redeem. None of us have a claim on the Real Truth as it just is. We sometimes stumble upon it like a fragment of gold in the dirt and it changes us. I stumbled upon Reshad almost 50 years ago and it led to Moulana Rumi and Achmad Rifai. Just remember to breathe folks! Laugh every day and have ecstasy as your sacrament.

dear Reshad
you were such a deep inspiration for all who had the opportunity to meet you! you brought us in contact with Life Itself so that we are able to go on our way. you gave your life to Life Itself and are such a great example for all to see it – helping opening our ears, eyes and hearts – who really wanted to know. your life, your work, your life was and still is a great, living example of walking the Way of Compassion, Love and Service.
thank you for being, thank you for your courage, thank you for your selflessness, thank you for your teaching in everyday action, thank you for sharing your life, thank you for your love, thank you your humour, thank for allowing us to be with you.
you will always have a very special place in my heart and I am sure in everybody’s heart who has ever met you whether they know it or not.

Reshad, my dear friend, I feel sad and I will miss you a lot. You have been so humble and you were a giant in the realm of Love. It has been an honor to know you and to walk with you for a while on our way back home. You have decided to die into a new life. We will meet again! I will cherish all the memories of the time we spent together – So long farewell my friend until we meet again.
In loving memory, Toni

Beloved Reshad,
when I asked about the end, you simply said: “There is no death.”
So how to conceive of this parting?
I feel your tremendous gratefulness, love, unimaginable loyalty and friendship as alive as ever – beyond all constrictions in words.
So, thank you, thank you, thank you always.

Dearly Reshad,

As Reshad’s sons told: some of his last words were to tell his friends that he loved them and he wished us well on our journey. Thank you Reshad, we’ll take that in and pass it on, in our smiles, our memories, respect for eachother, moving along, stopping for a sign, laughing with love, crying for letting go, all being connected with endless golden threads. So long…

Cedi Rozsa Mol | 2 June 2016

Reshad,

In Liebe

The Gentle Breath of the Lion

Dear Reshad,
You sang, you danced, you roared with laughter and fury, you filled the room with generosity while constantly creating a still point in the middle. While healing others in so many ways you yourself seemed to be continuously in physical pain. You had an urgent message, you almost desperately needed to make us listen to Rumi’s message of love, compassion and service. Thank you for never giving up and thank you for eventually trusting that “the gentle breath of the lion”, as you called it, had kindled the fire in one or the other, actually in all of us.
Nobody who met you even briefly will forget the welcome you had for everyone.
Now you have moved on to another realm. I am sure that we can always meet you in the moments of beauty.

Karin Monte | 3 June 2016

Ein Blitz zuckt durch alle Welten
in der Jetzt geschehenden Schöpfung:
Jenseits der Tugenden ist der Weg frei
in die Einheit der Liebe.

Das Universum erbebt:
Himmel und Erde sind Eins;
neue Welten gezeugt

… go on your way be easy…

Mr. Feild, I never met you physically, but internally you will always live on. I was divinely lead to your writings, they became sound nourishment for a longing soul, both milk and meat. For me, so many miles away, it gave such comfort yet knowing a man like you existed on the earth and breathed upon in with me. I will miss the surety of knowing you physically dance here. As far as your breath, well, it will forever circuit this earth and dance inside my inhale and exhale…

Reshad was the ideal teacher. He taught not only with words, but with the sound of truth itself. He never wanted followers. He wanted pupils – asking us to let go of answers and find our own questions, seeing our potential Long before we did, giving exercises, telling stories, encouraging, scolding us only if he felt our egos getting in the way. Understanding a lesson just intellectually was not good enough for him, he wanted us to understand with our whole being, to go for the truth itself and cherish the life we were given giving back.
May the seed he was sowing continue to grow.
In gratefullness

Deine Einladung an alle Menschen. Jenseits von Religionen, Glaubenssystemen; jenseits der Form! Ohne Etikett, ohne Label!
Deine Botschaft die Liebe!
Kommt! Kommt!
Kommt heim!
Danke mein Freund, mein Lehrer Reshad Danke!

Love-Message to a Universal Traveler
Dear Reshad, thank you for the deep journeys you have made on the surface of Mother Earth and in her Invisible Realms. With your presence on the road that leads from Broken Spirit Valley to Holy Spirit Mountain you have left unique footprints, which are supporting that special evolution “our” Planet is so much in need of. You invited us to understand those footprints and warned us at the same time to not imitate them, for just one simple reason: The Spiritual Evo-lution of Mother Earth can only be served by originals.
You enabled and are still enabling all people, who are willing to find that unique, indefinable label, which informs brother Future that it was never used by his twin sister Past. I look around me and see that today is, as always and ever, a perfect day for those who trust and love life itself in the way “our” Universe so gently requires. Life… where you are so timelessly connected to, Reshad, no matter where you are allowed to travel right now!

As someone else mentioned here, Reshad has been in my mind for several months. I even tried contacting him, to no avail, and I now know why. I had the incredible pleasure of participating on the experiment which was the Institute for Conscious Life in Los Angeles as a 20 year old child and meeting Reshad, who changed my life entirely.
Regardless of the knowledge that this is all a shadow, I will surely miss him. I am truly grateful to have met him.

Beloved God Father,
it is me, Easy, your adoring God Son. Thank you! And bless you for the gifts you gave from the Heart. I am who I am from the seeds you sowed all those years ago. The lessons were many:  How to cook with love in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. How to fish for Salmon in enchanting Vancouver, British Columbia. And how to throw perfect darts in the home we shared in Capitola-by-the-Sea, California. May we stay close and behold each other again, my Love.

Easy | 15 March 2018

I was fortunate enough to have met Reshad when he first came to Vancouver. Went to Kootenay Lake, LA, Bellingham etc. Am still reading the Masnavi as a result. Sure he had some issues but we all did. The last time we were in contact ten years ago we discussed “Everything is perishing except Thy face, oh Lord.” If only we could continue.

He would get me to sing for the groups on occasion, my favourite song being this one…

I have been lost in dreams at such a cost
Wandering out on my own
In a distant land with a wayward band
But now I’m returning to my home.
Please show me how, though I’m spinning round and round.
I am asleep and must awake, but I’m gagged and I’m bound…

Oh my Lord, won’t You teach me and guide me
To reach You inside me
To travel the straight way that leads to the gateway
Of love and understanding.

Teach me to learn, teach me to turn
Show me how light can unfold
Guide me along, please help me to be strong
Now I’m returning to my home.

Cheers, old friend, may we meet again on the bright side.

Greg Mantle | 10 January 2019

I never met Reshad, but two of his books guided me through a very dark time of my life and I still read and re-read them, they are so many layers to uncover.

I will tell you the story. I was sitting in my very old car outside my home. My partner had just left me, and my mother died three months afterwards. I was left with a little five-year-old boy to take care of and in the middle of an art degree in London. I was in a state of despair and feeling suicidal were the truth to be told. I had Radio 4 on in the car, and a programme came on about Reshad Feild, part of the Springfields, and a seeker of truth. I was fascinated by what I heard, and the book The Invisible Way was mentioned.

The programme ended, and I felt so alone in the world. At that point a man who was decorating the outside of the house opposite, wearing white overalls, came across to the car and said: “Are you all right, love, would you like a cigarette?” At that point I realised nothing is by chance, and angels come in all guises. For the first time ever, I felt as if I was a part of the universe and that it was sending me signs, and care. Needless to say , I brought the book from Foyles, and it helped me begin a journey that has never ended.

I am so grateful that I found him when I did. I owe him a great debt for opening doors to me, and it is wonderful to smile at the memory of those dark days, knowing that life has transformed for me, not externally, not financially, but I know there are deep deep meanings in this world, and the greatest one of love, he taught me.

I am sorry I never met him. I am sure you are all grieving him, but know that he is on his journey elsewhere.

I will keep him and all of you in my heart and prayers, and in my thoughts.

Dear Reshad,

After I paid respect at the tomb of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi in Konya I visited one of your lively lectures in Amsterdam. You touched my heart and from that moment I was on the Sufi path.

For ever greatful, thank you!

Salaams
